The Story
Street and squatter children are a vulnerable group of young people whose lifestyles and exposure to the street or squatter environments are not conducive. Hence children need to be developed as self-protectors. The project undertaken by INSPIRATION in association with SAVE THE CHILDREN, KOLKATA sought to achieve its aims by educating vulnerable children about the obvious and hidden dangers of violence, support them to identify the challenges and hurdles that block them from empowering themselves and skill them to overcome the encounters. The programme was designed to provide creative, constructive and sustainable ways to manage the real issues they face in their daily lives.
It was a participatory exercise with a team of professionals including educationists, psychologists, communication specialists, creative experts experimenting and working on module development in this vulnerable space. The modules developed were tested and tried with these children.
