The Story
In West Bengal the industrial growth especially at the district level could not reap good results due to various factors. Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) have also not had a steady growth in the district. The problem is mainly two-fold: firstly, Lack of entrepreneurship development effort and secondly, the reluctance of banks to finance. Hooghly district, the erstwhile industrial district of West Bengal having a concentration of jute, major Rubber and Allied Industries had also lost the vibrant industrial climate and several industries have become sick due to various factors.
Hijli INSPIRATION with the support of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) undertook the Rural Industries Programme in Hooghly District to facilitate a single-window operation to boost the SME sector.
Aim
Create an industrial friendly environment involving stakeholders to attract the investors and credit institutions to facilitate credit and other linkages to give a big push in the industrial scenario of the district. Facilitate cluster growth in the district with the potential clusters.

- 600 youth trained through Entrepreneurship Development Programmes on prospects and pre-requisites of Entrepreneurship Development .
- 225 Prospective Entrepreneurs Counselled.
- 181 project reports prepared on Trades like Paddy to Rice, Beauty Parlour, Chanachur factory, Photocopy Machine, Puffed Rice Manufacturing, Wood & Steel Furniture Manufacturing, Auto Service Center, Husking Mill, Tailoring, Grill Manufacturing, Bag Manufacturing, Medicine Garment Manufacturing, Paper Plate manufacturing , Mobile Repairing, Aluminum Goods Manufacturing, Computer Embroidery etc.
- 87 cases entered the process of bank linkage.
- 57 Cases directly linked with Banks.
- 30 schemes linked with Government Scheme like FFDA (Fish Farmers Development Agency), BSKP (Bangla Swanirbhar Karmasansthan Prakalpa) and PMEGP( Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme).
