Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) a flagship Mission of Government of India being implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), was launched on 25th June 2015. The Mission addresses urban housing shortage among the EWS/LIG and MIG categories including the slum dwellers by ensuring a pucca house to all eligible urban households by the year 2022- coinciding with the timeframe when Nation completes 75 years of its Independence. PMAY (U) adopts a demand driven approach wherein the Housing shortage is decided based on demand assessment by States/Union Territories. PMAY (U) embarks on four verticals for scheme implementation where in West Bengal BLC has been adopted as the major component.
In West Bengal, the State Level Nodal Agency (SUDA) or SLNA assigned Hijli INSPIRATION as an Independent Facilitating Agency for carrying out Social Audit in 10% of the projects comprising not less than 100 DUs for the Year 2015-16, following the Social Audit guidelines of PMAY HFA (U). The IFA adopted a participatory and facilitative approach in involving the ULB, beneficiaries and other stakeholders in conducting Social Audit.
